The Costa del Sol — literally "Coast of the Sun" — runs for approximately 150 kilometres through the Province of Malaga in the heart of Andalusia. Framed to the north by the dramatic ridgeline of the Andalusian mountains and to the south by the warm waters of the Mediterranean, it has earned its name many times over.
Protected from cold northern winds by the Sierra Blanca mountain range, the region records over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year — one of the highest in Europe — and enjoys more than 300 sunny days annually. Summer temperatures average 25–30°C while winters remain mild, with average daytime highs of around 15°C in January.
The Mediterranean sea reaches 23–25°C in August and remains swimmable from June through October. A substantial international community — British, Irish, Scandinavian, German and Dutch among the most prominent — means that English is widely spoken and international services, healthcare and schooling are readily available.

Mijas Costa — looking down to the Mediterranean
Mijas Costa occupies one of the most privileged positions on the entire Costa del Sol — a 12-kilometre stretch of coastline between Fuengirola to the east and the open countryside approaching Marbella to the west.
Where Fuengirola is a busy resort town and Marbella carries its international price tag, Mijas Costa occupies a considered middle ground: lower-rise, quieter, greener, and more residential in character, yet with excellent infrastructure and a genuinely international community that has chosen the area for long-term living rather than just holidays.
The municipality is home to approximately 90,000 residents, of whom nearly 40% are foreign nationals from more than 125 countries — with a British expatriate community of close to 10,000. Mijas Costa, together with Marbella, has more golf courses than any other area on the Costa del Sol — twelve in total, including the internationally-regarded La Cala Golf Resort and El Chaparral Golf Club.

La Cala de Mijas — the local village and beach, 5 min by car
El Chaparral is one of the most distinctive residential areas on the Mijas Costa. The area is surrounded by a forest of centuries-old Canary pine trees — creating a landscape unlike anything else on this stretch of coast. Properties here sit within generous plots, with the scent of pine and the sound of the sea as their backdrop.
El Chaparral Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course designed by Pepe Gancedo, integrated into the pine forest and positioned just 700 metres from the beach — one of the most scenic in southern Spain, with sea views across the Mediterranean from multiple holes.
Within El Chaparral sits the Las Farolas urbanisation — a quiet, established residential zone with direct beach access, restaurants and shops within easy walking distance, and La Cala village just five minutes by car. The position midway between La Cala and Fuengirola gives residents easy access to a full range of services in both directions.
